Introduction to Wirksworth

This fascinating and ancient town has a wide variety of intriguing courtyards and gardens that are often hidden from view, but offer glimpses of delight as you wander around the streets and pathways.

The Hidden Gardens and Courtyards of Wirksworth event is now in it's 10th year.

The weekend gives a unique opportunity for visitors to look behind the walls and enjoy the towns own hidden and private spaces, where every size and type of garden and courtyard space is to be found.

Each year we include a number of new gardens, in order to create a different perspective for visitors to the town.

Visitors follow a trail of up to 30 gardens in and around the town centre of Wirksworth, with  some gardens providing delicious home made cakes and teas en route.

Adding to the garden visits, on Saturday afternoon, Wirksworth Community choir will be singing in the memorial gardens, and on Sunday afternoon Soul Voices will be singing. A real treat.

Each year money raised from the event is donated back to local Wirksworth clubs, groups and charities.

The market town of Wirksworth is situated three miles from Matlock, 9 miles from Ashbourne and 15 miles from Derby (see 'Getting Around').
